In 2016 driven by wanderlust and a desire to rediscover a sense of ‘home’, I began traveling with no real destination or end in sight. Out of these travels began the series Chronicles, documenting this journey along with the places that keep drawing me back. This series examines the way that we interact with a new place, explore it, learn its pathways and the marks of humanity of against the landscape.
Each piece begins with a watercolor and ink drawing of the landscape, detailing the waterways which feed the land. Over the drawing are fused layers of encaustic medium creating depth, opaqueness, and texture. The roads and pathways of each town or city are carved into the wax, contrasting against the natural topography below. Drawing inspiration from cartography and exploring the imperfection of representing a landscape that is forever changing.
